Changes to Family Violence Provisions
On the 7/6/2012 the changes to the Family Violence provisions within the Family Law Act came into effect. The widening of the domestic violence definition aims to better protect children, placing them and their safety at the centre of parental disputes in family law matters.
This however, does not negate the 2006 shared parenting reforms. The new provisions will affect all new family law matters concerning children and may affect existing family law court proceedings in certain circumstances.
